Scrapbooking 101: Eyelets & Brads

by Jessica on December 31, 2008

Eyelets and brads are a great way to add that finishing touch to a layout, and are fairly simple to do. Here’s how to use them:

Eyelets

At first, eyelets were quite a mystery to me. They seemed quite challenging, when in actuality they’re pretty simple. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Create a hole that fits the eyelet size. (I use my paper piercer, but there are hole punches for eyelets.) img_0392
  2. From the front, put the eyelet into the hole. img_0398
  3. Flip the paper over with the backside of the eyelet facing up on a self-healing mat (or something similar). img_0396
  4. Using your eyelet setter, set it over the eyelet (Sorry no picture for this one…it’s hard to take a picture when both hands are busy.)
  5. Now it’s time to use your hammer and make a little noise. Hammer the setter until the eyelet splits and flattens.  img_0397 img_0398img_0400

Brads

Brads are probably one of my favorite embellishments. Quick and easy. Not to mention useful and cute.

  1. Use your paper piercer (or a hole punch, depending on the size of the brad) to create a hole in your cardstock. img_0417
  2. Put the stem of the brad in the hole. img_0418
  3. Turn your cardstock over and open up the brad’s prongs until they are flush against the cardstock. img_0419img_0420img_0421
